Anybody who’s ever so much as left their house has probably seen at least one slot machine in their life. And more often than not they’re warned of the folly of playing on a slot machine, which is understandable: people don’t win on them all that often.

But there are a lot of common misconceptions about the things – especially for online slots, which get an even worse rap because players can’t see the programming involved in making them work – that need to be dispelled. Don’t pre-judge a slot machine before you read up on some of these myths and learn the truth about them. By doing so you can probably actually learn money in online slots.

Winning is based on a slots mechanism – present online and offline – called the RNG, or Random Number Generator. This generator is dedicated to deciding whether or not a person wins by randomly generating a number. If that number is lucky then the person wins.

That’s all there is to it. Yet this still leads people to create farcical myths regarding slots.

Regarding offline slots, many people will leave their machines and then see somebody at that machine a few minutes later win it big. The unlucky leaver will probably think that they would have won big, too, had they stayed on a bit longer. This is not true; the RNG is completely random. You would have had no better chances of winning a few minutes later than when you first started. More, machines that haven’t paid off in a while aren’t any more likely to jackpot.

And second, slots programs are changed by the casino as to the payout they give out. In other words, the casino can change how much their slots pay out in a jackpot. This is false. Casinos don’t set how big their payouts are; there’s a chip in real slot machines and programming in online programs that set how big those payouts are. And considering how seldom those jackpots come there’s no point for casinos to change them anyway, as they’re still bound to profit in the end anyway.
